FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 3-acetylbenzo[f]quinoline, which includes reacting benzo[f]quinoline with CCl4 and ethanol in an autoclave under argon in the presence of a copper-containing catalyst selected from CuI, CuBr2, Cu(acac)2, Cu(OAc)2, Cu(C6H5CO2)2·2H2O, Cu(C6H4(OH)CO2)2, CuCl2·2H2O, at 150-160°C for 3-9 hours in molar ratio [Cu]:[benzo[f]quinoline ]:[ethanol]:[CCl4]=[1]:[100]:[1500-10000]:[400-1500].
EFFECT: method of producing a starting compound for synthesis of antimalarial drugs, photocatalysts and azahelicenes.
