FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic chemistry, namely to a method for producing mono-methylquinolines, widely used in the manufacture of medicines, fungicides and herbicides, metal corrosion inhibitors, extractants and sorbents, dyes and high-boiling solvents. The method consists in the interaction of ethylene glycol with aniline in the presence of granular zeolite H-ZSM-5mmm of a high degree of crystallinity having a hierarchical (micro-meso-macro-porous) structure at 280-450°C, atmospheric pressure, volumetric feed rate (w) 3.0 h-1, molar ratio of aniline:ethylene glycol equal to 1:3, ethylene glycol is fed into the reactor without a solvent or in the form of a 20% solution in alcohol.
EFFECT: a simple effective heterogeneous-catalytic method for the synthesis of mono-methylquinolines has been developed, which reduces the energy and material consumption of the heterocyclization process.
