DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUE FOR EPILEPSY Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC A61B5/484

Abstract RU 2562109 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to neurology. A visual analyser is stimulated by a reverse staggered pattern, and visually evoked potentials (VEP) are recorded. The measured amplitude A and time T of VEP are averaged. The value T is laid off as abscissa, and the value A - as ordinate on the graph. An isoline ordinate is taken equal to an amplitude of first VEP; that is followed by calculating areas limited by the isoline and curve separately for positive (Sp) and negative (Sn) VEPs; the relation Sp/Sn is derived. The values falling within the range of 0.5 to 3.0 are considered to be normal, whereas the values beyond this range enables diagnosing epilepsy. If the derived values are less than 0.5, epileptogenesis with pronounced involution changes is diagnosed, and the values of more than 3.0 show epileptogenesis with immature brain.

EFFECT: technique enables providing the more reliable diagnosing and describing the nature of a brain involvement; that is ensured by recording the VEP and calculating the relation of areas of positive and negative amplitudes of the VEP.
