SUBSTANCE: method to ensure ornithological safety of an airport includes emitting pulses of directed non-coherent optical radiation with a continuous spectrum in the range of 200-2000 nm with brightness temperature not lower than 10000 K. The duration of the optical radiation pulses ranges from 1 to 100 mcs. The repetition frequency ranges from 0 to 1000 Hz. The repetition frequency of the optical radiation pulses is varied according to an arbitrary law. An apparatus for ensuring ornithological safety of an airport has an emitter. The emitter is in the form of a projector with a pulsed xenon lamp as a radiation source. The power supply unit comprises a capacitor, a charging device, a lamp ignition unit and a control unit. The pulsed xenon lamp and the capacitor are connected to each other such that they form a discharge circuit. The charging device is connected to the capacitor. Parameters of the discharge circuit and the pulsed xenon lamp satisfy a design ratio.
EFFECT: high effectiveness of scaring birds by using the full spectrum of sensitivity of the eyes of birds, longer range and simple design of the device.
