FIELD: physics, optics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the manufacture of contact lenses and a method of making thermochromic contact lenses. The method includes preparing a reaction mixture which includes a polymerisable monomer, a photoinitiator and a thermochromic compound. The thermochromic compound exhibits substantial radiation absorption at a first temperature and at least 80% less radiation absorption at a second temperature. The reaction mixture is poured into a mould at the first temperature and held until the second temperature is achieved. The reaction mixture is cured at the second temperature by exposing the mixture to radiation at a selected wavelength.

EFFECT: improved optical and mechanical properties of contact lenses.
