FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to multifocal contact lenses containing compounds which absorb high energy visible light (HEV), and use thereof to improve one or more visual indices. Claimed multifocal contact lens, which is a product of a free radical reaction of a reaction mixture, contains one or more polymerisable compounds suitable for making a contact lens; and a high-energy visible (HEV) radiation absorbing compound. Transmission of the contact lens in the wavelength range from 400 to 409 nm is up to 20 percent and/or the contact lens transmits 10 percent or less of light in the wavelength range from 280 to 399 nm.
EFFECT: improvement of vision indices, including improvement of one or more of quality of vision in various vergences, clarity of vision, reduction of glare, reduction of strabismus and chromatic contrast.
