FIELD: optics; chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to contact lenses containing compounds which absorb high energy visible light (HEV) and use thereof to improve one or more visual properties. Contact lens, which is a product of a reaction mixture containing one or more polymerisable compounds suitable for making a contact lens; and a high-energy visible (HEV) radiation absorbing compound, wherein the high-energy visible radiation absorbing compound contains a compound of formula I: , where: m and n independently represent 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4; T is a bond, O or NR; Y is a linking group; Pg is a polymerisable group; R in each occurrence is independently H, C1-C6 alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl or Y-Pg; and R1 and R2, if present, independently in each occurrence, are C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, C1-C6 thioalkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, aryl (preferably unsubstituted phenyl or phenyl substituted with alkyl or halogen), halogen, hydroxy, amino, NR3R4 or benzyl, wherein R3 and R4 independently represent H or C1-C6 alkyl, or two adjacent groups R1 or R2 together with carbon atoms to which they are attached form a cycloalkyl or aryl ring.
EFFECT: providing targeted absorption of undesirable wavelengths of high-energy radiation.
