FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: gamma-scintillation inspection method is based on illuminating an article with gamma-radiation; detecting radiation transmitted through the article with a receiving detector consisting of a scintillation crystal and a photomultiplier; logarithmation of the signal; analogue-to-digital conversion thereof, wherein to detect low (1-2%) but fast (1-2 s) signals on the background of large (500 or greater) but slow variations of the signal, the digital signal is transmitted to 2 digital filtering units, which provides an averaging time constant range of about 0.1 s to 10 s, from the output of which signals with a high averaging time constant are subtracted from signals from the output of the digital unit with low averaging time constant, after which the resultant signal is output on a monitor screen or printed on a printer.
EFFECT: high quality and reliability of detecting small defects in illuminated articles of different sizes on the background of large thickness variations.
