FIELD: physics, optics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for microscopic imaging of a sample with a digital scanner, having a sensor which includes a two-dimensional array of pixels, and to a digital scanning microscope which carries out said method. The scanner comprises a sensor which includes a two-dimensional array of pixels in an XY coordinate system. The Y axis is perpendicular to the scanning direction. The scanner is positioned such that the sensor can form an image of the slanting cross-section of the sample. The method comprises steps of activating a first subarray of the two-dimensional array of pixels. The first subarray continues primarily along the Y axis at the first coordinate X (X1) and includes a line of pixels. A first image is formed by forming an image of a first portion of the sample through the first subarray of pixels. During scanning, the first coordinate X is adjusted to updated positions, where the scanner determines a line of pixels which will be in the focus.

EFFECT: enabling continuous adjustment of an imaging subarray while scanning relative to the focus.
