FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to laboratory diagnostics, and makes it possible to detect a red blood cell ability to generate nitric oxide (NO). A method involves taking a blood sample from an examined individual, mixing the sample with an anticoagulant, placing a half of the sample into a hypoxic environment, then producing blood plasma from the sample portions affected and unaffected by the hypoxic environment, measuring the nitric oxide content in both portions and calculating a difference of the measured values as compared to similar findings in a reference group. The comparison results show the NO-generating red blood cell function state.

EFFECT: method enables sizing up a contribution of the enhanced or diminished NO-generating red blood cell function to a pathogenic mechanism of hypertensive disease and other disorders related to hypoxic and thrombotic conditions, disturbed vascular control and abnormal nitric oxide metabolism.
