FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to biotechnology. The invention discloses a method of producing a terminal alkene, in a particular version - isobutylene, use of mevalonate diphosphate decarboxylase and a microorganism which produces mevalonate diphosphate decarboxylase to obtain a terminal alkene, as well as a composition for producing a terminal alkene. The method includes converting 3-hydroxyalkanoate of formula using mevalonate diphosphate decarboxylase in the presence of ATP, rNTP, a dNTP or a mixture of several of such molecules, a polyphosphate or pyrophosphate into a terminal alkene. R1 and R2 are independently selected from a group consisting of a hydrogen atom and a straight or branched alkyl group which includes 1-4 carbon atoms. Isobutylene is obtained by converting 3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyrate using mevalonate diphosphate decarboxylase which includes SEQ ID NO:6, or a sequence having at least 15%, preferably 50%, 80% or 90% sequence homology. A composition for producing a terminal alkene includes a microorganism which produces mevalonate diphosphate decarboxylase, a culture medium with a carbon source and 3-hydroxyalkanoate.
EFFECT: invention provides a new way for synthesis of a terminal alkene based on enzymatic conversion of 3-hydroxyalkanoates, which enables to prevent use of petroleum products and lowers the cost of producing plastics and fuel.
