FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a heterotrophic microorganism genetically modified for 1,2-propanediol product, and to a method of producing 1,2-propanediol. In said microorganism, at least one gene coding NADPH-dependent acetoleductase, or mutant gldA* gene, coding NADPH-dependent glycerol dehydrogenase, containing replacement of amino acid residue of aspartic acid in position 37 of protein GldA Escherichia coli K12 on glycine, alanine or valine is overexpressed. Said NADPH-dependent acetoleductase is encoded by an adh gene from Clostridium beijerinckii or an adh gene from Thermoanaerobacter brockii, or an adh1 gene from Entamoeba histolytica, or a GOX1615 gene from Gluconobacter oxydans, or a gld2 gene from Hypocrea jecorina, or a yhdN gene from Bacillus subtilis. Method of producing 1,2-propanediol involves culturing said microorganism in a suitable culture medium containing carbohydrate as a carbon source and recovering 1,2-propanediol from said culture medium.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides improved production of 1,2-propanediol from carbohydrate as a carbon source.
