FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to luminescent materials which can be used in light-emitting diodes (LED) excited by ultraviolet or visible light. The luminescent material for a LED contains at least one compound selected from aluminate, silicate, germanate, germanate-silicate, phosphate or antimonate. The said compound contains copper, is activated by at least one element from a group which includes Eu, Gd, Ce and Mn, and converts ultraviolet light in the 300-400 nm range and/or blue light in the 380-500 nm range, generated by a LED mounted in a light-emitting device, into light in the visible range with a colour rendering index of 90 or higher. One of the said compounds and any mixture thereof can be used.
EFFECT: compounds according to the invention have high resistance to moisture, as well as water and other polar solvents, and have the colour temperature in the range of 2000-8000 K or 10000 K.
