FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: cylindrical position-sensitive detector comprises a plurality of scintillators separated by a reflecting material placed between the scintillators, each scintillator in optical contact with a photodetector, wherein a scintillator consists of one or more cylindrical sets composed of scintillating fibres which enable to detect neutron or gamma radiation; the scintillating fibres are provided with light-reflecting covers and light-permeable coatings; opposite ends of the scintillating fibres are connected by optical connectors to two fibre-optic guides situated at the opposite side in optical contact with two photodetector arrays, the number of photosensitive elements in each of which is equal to or greater than the number of scintillating fibres.
EFFECT: determining the direction in which radiation arrives at a detector in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the device housing, providing azimuthal angular resolution.
