SUBSTANCE: detection image forming section forms a detection image which is an image for detecting the state of a projection image, and includes a plurality of parts of the detection image and a background image, covering the corresponding peripheral portions of the parts of the detection image. Each of the parts of the detection image includes a plurality of regions, the corresponding brightness values of which differ from each other, and background images having brightness values lower than the brightness values of the parts of the detection image. The detection image forming section changes at least one of the brightness distribution of each of the parts of the detection image for the detection image to be formed and the size of each of the background images, such that the brightness distribution of each of the parts of the detection image of the captured detection image, obtained by image formation, approximates the brightness distribution of the corresponding one of the parts of the detection image for the detection image.
EFFECT: high accuracy of selection and accuracy of detecting a detection image projected on a projection surface.
