FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: glyoxal synthesis process produces glycolic and glyoxalic acids impurities which hinder the further use thereof since, along with the latter, they undergo condensation reaction, thereby strongly contaminating glyoxal-based products. In order to perform analysis, the acids are separated on a Zorbax Sb-Aq column measuring 150×3 mm with the grain size of 5 mcm. The acids adsorbed on the column are eluted with the following mixture: 99% water, 1% acetonitrile +H3PO4, pH=2, at a rate of 0.5 ml/min. The detector used is a spectrophotometric detector with a wavelength of 210 nm, with the subsequent determination of the area of chromatographic peaks of glyoxalic and glycolic acids in an aqueous glyoxal solution.
EFFECT: designing a method for the chromatographic determination of glycolic and glyoxalic acids in order to determine the weight ratio thereof in a glyoxal solution.
