FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems for investigation, monitoring and control of fuel ignition and combustion processes, specifically to systems for investigation of processes of fuel ignition and combustion in combustion chambers of internal combustion engines. For implementation of present method, following procedure is developed: along a certain direction of movement of flame, calculating propagation speed of leading and training edge of flame in main and final phases, width of combustion zone is determined by means of known distances between isolated electrodes and time intervals between appearance and disappearance of ion current on said electrodes, intensity of flow rates of chemical reactions of combustion of ion current amplitude is determined and its lifetime in comparison with amplitude and time of existence of ion current in circuit of corresponding electrodes of sensor at combustion of fuel-air mixture of stoichiometric composition.
EFFECT: determination of main characteristics of fuel-air mixture combustion in designing and finishing new-generation engines, which provide high efficiency of fuel-air combustion and minimum concentration of non-combusted hydrocarbons in exhaust gases.
