SUBSTANCE: invention relates to positioning device for use in tyre assembly system and method of positioning bead. Technical result is achieved by a positioning device for use in a tyre assembly system for positioning a bead, which comprises a holding unit having a flat retaining surface having a first side. Transfer assembly is configured to move parallel to retaining surface and comprises gripper to grip and move captured bead along retaining surface. Bead holder is arranged to retain bead pressed against retaining surface on its first side. Gripper can move between first position whereat gripper projects from holding surface on its first side to grip bead, and second position whereat gripper completely located behind retaining surface if seen from first side.
EFFECT: technical result is faster production cycle.
