FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building, specifically to controlling thermal state of internal combustion engine (ICE) with liquid cooling. In disclosed method to determine thermal state of ICE steam intensity is measured (volumetric, weight content and/or steam flow rate) in cooling liquid, for which steam is extracted from inner circuit of cooling system, determining weight and/or volumetric steam content and flow rate of cooling liquid, and then discharging steam into an expansion tank. Proposed device comprises an engine, liquid cooling system with circulation pump of internal circuit, a thermostat and water-cooled condenser, pipelines and control equipment. In addition, in device on pipeline for discharging cooling liquid from engine frame, there is a device for separating water and steam, at steam phase output of which there is a device for measuring flow rate (volumetric or mass vapour content) of steam.

EFFECT: technical result of invention is improved accuracy and completeness of diagnosis of thermal state of internal combustion engine.
