FIELD: lighting.
SUBSTANCE: backlight device has light source, collimator, beam expander, one beam deflector, waveguide with input and output elements. Light source is made in form of laser. Collimator is configured to collimate light beam emitted by light source. Beam expander is made with possibility of changing size of light beam after said collimation. Beam deflector is made with possibility of deflecting light beam after said sizing. Element of input and output element are located at different end or side surfaces of waveguide or at same end or lateral surface of waveguide. Input element is configured to input light beam incident on it, in to waveguide in which light spreads due to total internal reflection. Output element is configured to provide diffraction and output of light beam from waveguide in direction of object to be illuminated.
EFFECT: higher homogeneity of light coming out of backlight device.
