SUBSTANCE: invention relates to augmented reality devices based on a waveguide. Disclosed is an optical combiner based on a waveguide for displaying augmented reality, a method for operating said device, augmented reality glasses based on said device. Optical combiner comprises a projector, a waveguide, an input diffraction optical element, an expanding diffraction optical element, and an output diffraction optical element. Expanding diffraction optical element includes segments, wherein the number of said segments is odd. Said segments represent a central segment and peripheral segments symmetrical to the central segment. Output diffraction optical element includes segments, wherein the number of segments of the output diffraction optical element is equal to the number of segments of the expanding diffraction optical element. Segments of the expanding diffraction optical element and the output diffraction optical element are optically matched.
EFFECT: creation of a compact augmented reality device with a flat or curved combiner, which forms a high-quality virtual image for a user with high resolution and a wide field of view.
