FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing noribogaine. Method includes:

a) converting voacangine into 12-hydroxyibogamine-18-carboxylic acid ester, wherein indole nitrogen is optionally protected by an amino protecting group; b) optionally isolating 12-hydroxyibogamine-18-carboxylic acid ester and/or its amino-protective derivative; c) converting 12-hydroxyibogamine-18-carboxylic acid ester and/or its amino-protective derivative obtained at step a) or b), into noribogaine; and d) isolating obtained noribogaine. Also disclosed are versions of method and compounds containing salt.

EFFECT: disclosed method of producing noribogaine from voacangine enables effective and reliable minimisation of ibogamine impurities.
