SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. Computer-implemented method of entropy decoding units in an encoded image involves receiving a stream, which represents at least one encoded image; identification of a predetermined set of groups of units from the stream; provision of each group of units to the first module of decoding; and processing by the first module of decoding of the first unit in the given group of units, herewith the first unit processing includes: determining that the first unit is the first in the order of units in the given group of units; extracting the first set of data of probability from the buffer if the first unit is the first in the order of units in the given group of units, herewith the first set of data of probability contains the first set of probabilities of occurrence of symbols associated with the unit, which is located in close proximity to the first unit and which belongs to another group of units, which differs from the specified group of units in the predefined multiple groups of units; entropy decoding the first unit basing on the first set of data of probability; and processing by the first module of decoding of the second unit in the given group of units.
EFFECT: technical result is improvement of efficiency of decoding an image units.
