SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding and decoding of images. Disclosed is a method of encoding at least one image divided into sections, which realizes the stages: predicting data of current section based on at least one already encoded and then decoded reference section with output of predicted section; determining a set of residual data by comparing data related to current section and predicted section. Residual data are associated with various elements of digital data subject to entropy coding. Prior to generation of a signal containing coded information, the following steps are performed: determining, from a defined set of residual data, a subset containing residual data suitable for modification; calculating a function value representing residual data of a defined subset; comparing the calculated value with the value of at least one of the digital data elements; based on the comparison result, modifying or not modifying at least one of the subset residual data elements; and in case of modification, entropy coding of at least one modified residual data element is performed.

EFFECT: technical result is higher accuracy of encoding and decoding images.
