FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts for oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon compounds, present in engine exhaust gases, or oxidation of nitrogen oxides. Disclosed is a method of producing supported catalyst by deposition with precipitation, containing a palladium and gold alloy, which includes steps of: (i) combining a particulate support material, a solution of a gold compound, a solution of a palladium compound, and a solution of an alkaline precipitating agent to form a slurry mixture; (ii) mixing obtained mixture for time sufficient for hydrolysis of gold and palladium compounds, wherein final pH after hydrolysis is within range of 7-8; and (iii) separation of solid phase from mixture at end of step (ii); (iv) bringing solid phase into contact with a reducing agent. Disclosed is a supported catalyst obtained using said method. Catalyst contains catalyst particles containing substrate material, gold and palladium, wherein catalyst particles contain ≥70 % gold and ≥70 % palladium in form of an alloy of palladium and gold. Average size of metal crystallite in said alloy after ageing on air for 48 hours at 750 °C is < 15 nm with measurement by X-ray diffractometry, and catalyst particle contains 0.1-10 wt%. palladium and gold. Disclosed is a method of making catalysed support, which includes steps of: (i) making said catalyst; (ii) separating and washing of catalyst; (iii) preparation of primer by forming a catalyst slurry from previous step; (iv) bringing primer into contact with support.
