FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an oxidation catalyst for treating exhaust gases from a diesel engine, use thereof and a method for production thereof. Catalyst comprises a carrier, a first coating region disposed on a support, wherein first coating area contains first platinum group metal and first substrate material, second coating area adjacent to first coating area, wherein the second coating area comprises a second platinum group metal and a second substrate material, a third coating region on the support, wherein the third coating region comprises a third platinum group metal and a third substrate material, wherein the third coating area is adjacent to the second coating area, wherein the first coating area comprises a portion of the upstream coating layer, second coating area includes a portion of the upstream coating layer and a portion of the downstream coating layer, and the third coating area includes a portion of the downstream coating layer.
EFFECT: invention provides an oxidation catalyst having such a structure which enables to manufacture it in a cost-effective manner and provides maximum efficiency of platinum group metals which are components thereof, excellent activity with respect to oxidation of carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons, resistance to the presence of sulphur and its oxides in diesel fuel and sufficient activity with respect to oxidation of nitrogen oxide to nitrogen dioxide.
