SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video signal encoding and decoding. Proposed is a method of generating prediction modules for video signal decoding, and the method is implemented for a video signal of 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 formats. Method involves a step, on which modules of the current image prediction are generated from one or more saved images prior to the current image, at the stage of generation. Then, as per the method, for the 4:2:0 format video signal interpolated prediction module readings are obtained using a x4 brightness filter with 8 branches applied in vertical and horizontal directions to the saved brightness prediction module, herewith the x4 brightness filter is the interpolation filter four times increasing the resolution, and using a x8 chromaticity filter with 4 branches in horizontal and vertical directions to the saved chromaticity prediction module, herewith the x8 chromaticity filter is the interpolation filter eight times increasing the resolution.
EFFECT: technical result is higher resolution of images due to interpolation of prediction.
