SUBSTANCE: method contains the steps at which: luminance and / or colour-difference image samples are predicted, based on the other respective reference samples obtained from the same image in accordance with the prediction mode; the difference between the samples and the corresponding predicted samples is determined; the differences detected for the sample unit are decomposed into the frequency components; the scanning patterns are selected from a group of two or more candidates scanning circuits; the horizontal scanning circuit is selected in the selection step for the group of the predominantly vertical prediction modes, the vertical scanning circuit is selected for the group of the predominantly horizontal prediction modes and the diagonal scanning circuit is selected for other prediction modes, and the differential data, decomposed into the frequency components, are encoded in the order of the decomposition coefficients into the frequency components according to the chosen scan circuit.

EFFECT: improving the quality of the image while encoding and decoding the data.
