FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building, particularly, to producing cutting parts of machines and a cutting tool. Method of hardening a cutting tool comprises applying a wear-resistant coating on a cutting surface, abrasive-jet machining of the cutting surface is performed, and the wear-resistant coating is applied by gas-flame spraying to thickness of the obtained layer from 0.5 to 3 mm with simultaneous local cooling, then the cutting surface is cooled and sharpened. After gas-flame spraying, the coating can be melted, the wear-resistant coating can be sprayed with alternating solid and plastic layers or of a mixture of solid and plastic powders.
EFFECT: invention provides higher wear-resistance of cutting tool to produce a self-sharpening effect.
