SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video sequence encoding/decoding. Method of video sequence encoding containing sets of reference images, RPS, comprises steps of placing said RPS in order of decoding in set of sequence parameters, SPS; each RPS contained in SPS is assigned with index, wherein index is within range from 0 to number of RPS contained in SPS, minus one; determined whether external prediction for RPS current image video sequence is used; determined whether explicit transmission RPS for said current image RPS is used by transmitting RPS in slice header of current image; only if RPS external prediction and explicit transmission are used for current image RPS, encoding information specifying difference between current image RPS index and RPS index used for external prediction.
EFFECT: enabling number of bits reducing required for signalling sets of reference images.
