FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing D, L-methionine and can be used in chemical industry. Disclosed method involves reaction of potassium cyanide with 3-methylthiopropionaldehyde and ammonium dioxide at 5-10 °C for 3-15 minutes to obtain a solution of 5-(β-methylthioethyl)glycolureide, then heating said 5-(β-methylthioethyl) glycolureide to 140-220 °C and saponification reaction for 2-15 minutes, after saponification reaction, cooling to 0-40 °C, extraction using an organic solvent, neutralising aqueous phase with CO2, crystallisation, after filtration, washing and drying, obtaining finished D, L-methionine meeting requirements; after heating mother solution formed from filtering with crystals of D, L-methionine to 110-160 °C and desorption of CO2 it is used in full cycle of absorbing liquid for hydrogen cyanide.
EFFECT: novel efficient method suitable for successive clean production lines, with almost complete absence of formation of liquid and gaseous wastes.
