FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agriculture, biology and plant physiology. Method comprises assessing functional status of plants in vitro by determining chlorophyll fluorescence parameters. Wherewith the method comprises recording a signal of slow chlorophyll fluorescence induction in the wavelength range of 670-760 nm for 10-30 seconds, calculating rate of change of the SCHFI signal 10-30 seconds after reaching the maximum fluorescence level FM, calculating the value of virtual stationary fluorescence level Fc* by extrapolation of the obtained data for 120-300th second of virtual measurements, determining the value of specific photosynthetic activity by formula Y=(FM-Fc*)/Fc*. Functional status of plants is determined by the relation of specific photosynthetic activity, produced as a result of extrapolation, and rate of change of the SCHFI signal - higher one or both parameters indicate better functional status of plants in vitro.

EFFECT: method allows maintaining viability of plants, assessing the functional status and viability of cells, tissues and organs of plants in vitro without violating sterility of the habitat, as well as detecting the degree of plant resistance to various adverse factors.
