FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: control system of internal combustion engine is proposed equipped with exhaust gases purification catalyst which is capable of accumulating oxygen; with air-fuel ratio sensor on the outlet side which is positined at the outlet of the exhaust gases purification catalyst; and with the air-fuel ratio control device which controls the air-fuel ratio so that the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gases flowing into the exhaust gases purification catalyst reaches a target air-fuel ratio. The control system changes the target air-fuel ratio to a lean air-fuel ratio which is established when the air-fuel ratio in exhaust gases, detected by the air-fuel ratio sensor on the outlet side, reaches the rich air-fuel ratio. And then the target air-fuel ratio is changed to a slightly lean air-fuel ratio which is established before the air-fuel ratio in exhaust gases, detected by the air-fuel ratio sensor on the outlet side, reaches the lean air-fuel ratio. And then the target air-fuel ratio is changed to a rich air-fuel ratio which is establshed when the air-fuel ratio in exhaust gases, detected by the air-fuel ratio sensor on the outlet side, reaches the lean air-fuel ratio. And then the target air-fuel ratio is changed to a slightly enriched air-fuel ratio which is established before the air-fuel ratio in exhaust gases, detected by the air-fuel ratio sensor positioned on the outlet side, reaches the rich air-fuel ratio.
EFFECT: creation of the internal combustion engine control system which is able to sufficiently reduce the amount of incomplete oxidation products, or NOx from the exhaust gases purification catalyst.
