FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for measuring the level of liquid and bulk substances in open metal containers. In particular, it can be used to determine the level of liquid metal in open process vessels of metallurgical production. In the device according to the invention for measuring the level of a substance in an open metal container containing a volumetric resonator in the form of a set of a cavity of a container and connected externally to its exposed surface of an electromagnetic wave reflector, connected to the cavity resonator by means of at least one coupling element, an electronic unit for exciting electromagnetic oscillations in the resonator and measuring its resonance frequency, reflector of electromagnetic waves is made in the form of two or more transverse waveguides, each of which is formed by a combination of a length of a hollow metal pipe open at the opposite end and having the same cross-sectional shape as the metal container, and at least one rectangular metal plate positioned vertically inside the pipe in the form of a longitudinal partition in its cross section and connected to its inner surface at both opposite ends of this plate having a height equal to the height of the pipe.

EFFECT: technical result is the expansion of the field of application.
