FIELD: internal combustion engines.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engines. Method of selectively withdrawing from operation one or more engine cylinders comprises operating engine (10) with all cylinders (15a), (15b) in which combustion occurs and providing low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) flow (LP-EGR). In response to the decreasing engine load, the EGR is deactivated and the EGR engine tolerance is increased by operating the engine with one or more cylinders withdrawn from operation. One or more engine cylinders withdrawn from operation is maintained until the EGR concentration is below the threshold value. Version of the method for selectively withdrawing from operation one or more engine cylinders and a system for selective withdrawal from operation of one or more engine cylinders are disclosed.

EFFECT: technical result is to accelerate purging of EGR from the air intake system under conditions of a decreasing engine load.
