SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process of starting the melting of metal-containing charge material, in the melting device for the production of metal comprising a melting vessel, comprising a main chamber for receiving a melting bath, a forehearth for discharging molten metal from the main chamber during the melting process, and a connecting element, which connects the main chamber and forehearth. To secure the startup, the following is carried out. Preheat the main chamber, and a connecting member forehearth and boot poured hot metal into the main chamber through the forehearth. Then, starts the supply of the cold oxygen-containing gas and carbonaceous material into the cold main chamber for a maximum of 3 hours after completion of the loading of hot metal and the ignition of the carbonaceous material, and the main chamber is heated and molten metal into the main chamber. Continuously oxygen-containing gas and carbonaceous material are supplied to the main chamber and the carbonaceous material is burned, the main chamber is heated and molten metal into the main chamber for at least 10 minutes and start feeding the metal material in the main chamber to initiate production of the metal.
