SUBSTANCE: method of operating is intended for use in the management of frequency of preventive maintenance of facilities. The method includes determining an initial frequency of maintenance of the object for the operating time and the allowable failure rate in relation to the operating time, conducting maintenance at the operating time and fixing the value of the failure rate before the maintenance, comparing the value of the failure rate with the allowable and, when it is value greater than allowable, conducting regular maintenance at the operating time of the object proportional to relation of the allowable failure rate to the fixed.

EFFECT: increased reliability of the technical object by controlling the frequency of its maintenance.
