FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Control method is intended for an engine connected to a three-way catalytic converter of exhaust gases with an exhaust gas sensor located downstream of the catalytic converter. Method consists in stopping the fuel supply to the engine during the deceleration event. Fuel/air ratio of the engine is non-reactively adjusted with enrichment relative to stoichiometry, for a predetermined time after completion of the deceleration event. Fuel/air ratio is retroactively controlled at an average value near a value enriched in respect to stoichiometry, for preselected time through predetermined time. Fuel/air ratio is retroactively controlled to gradually return to stoichiometry at a preselected time. Versions of the method for controlling an engine are disclosed.
EFFECT: reduced saturation of oxygen accumulator of the catalytic converter.
