FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: height of the lightning-rod, the sag height of the lightning-rod and the shortest distance between the cable and core lightning-rod are determined; the real geometric parametres of the cable lightning-rod are replaced by the fictitious ones, considering it as a set of cable lightning-rods located at some distance from each other, wherein the height of the fictitious lightning-rods is taken equal to the height of the cable lightning-rod, and the distance between the fictitious lightning-rods is equal to their sesquialteral height; the largest distance is determined, at which the interaction between the cable and the core lightning-rods and the number of pairs of "core lightning-rod - fictitious core lightning-rod" is maintained, wherein the number of pairs is determined by the sesquialteral sag height of the core lightning-rod; the internal and external protection zones are determined for each of the pairs of "core lightning-rod - fictitious core lightning-rod".
EFFECT: method expands the possibilities of using a combination of core and cable lightning-rods.
