SUBSTANCE: steering booster device contains a steering mechanism, an electric motor, a gear mechanism, a torque sensor, a control module, a calculation pattern of the average load values for steering, and an abnormality detection circuit. The calculation pattern of the average load values for steering is installed in the control module and calculates the average value for the corresponding value of the steering load. The corresponding average value of the steering load corresponds to any of the turning torque, the electric motor's command current and the actual current of the electric motor actually flowing through the electric motor. The abnormality detection circuit is installed in the control module and compares the average value for the corresponding steering load value with the set value stored in the control module and determines the device abnormality when the average value exceeds a predetermined value.
EFFECT: increase in the reliability of the steering booster device.
