SUBSTANCE: oxygen separator includes at least one oxygen separating device comprising an oxygen separating sorbent for separating oxygen from the oxygen-containing gas, the oxygen separating device having a gas inlet on the input side connected to an inlet conduit to guide the oxygen-containing gas flowing to the oxygen separating device, and has a gas outlet on the output side connected to the discharge conduit to guide the oxygen-enriched gas flowing from the oxygen separating device. The oxygen separating unit output side is further connected to a purge gas supply unit to guide the purge gas through the oxygen separating device. At the same time, the input side of the oxygen separating device is connected to a drain conduit to guide the exhaust gas from the oxygen separator. The oxygen separator further includes a pressure regulating device (40) to create a pressure difference between the input side and the output side of the oxygen separating device. At the same time, a gas sensor is provided in the drain conduit to determine the concentration of at least one component of the exhaust gas.
