SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the preparation of new 4-aryl-2,7,9-triazaspiro[4.5]decane-6,8,10-trions of general formula I, which can be used as potential sedatives, antidepressant or nootropic agents. In the general formula I

R=CH3, R1=H (Ia); R=CH3, R1=CH3O (Ib); R=CH3, R1=(CH3)2N (Ic); R=CH3, R1=Cl (Id); R=C6H5, R1=H (Ie); R=C6H5, R1=CH3O (If); R=C6H5, R1=(CH3)2N (Ig); R=C6H5, R1=Cl (Ih). The method is based on a three-component heterocyclization reaction and consists in mixing equimolar amounts of 5-(arylmethylene) hexahydropyrimidine-2,4,6-trions, N-methylglycine or N-phenylglycine and formaldehyde in dried toluene, followed by boiling of the reaction mixture for 17 hours.
