FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: detector provides the terahertz radiation detection by changing the direction of the optical femtosecond pulse polarization vector under the action of the terahertz wave electric field. The working unit of the detector is made on the basis of a plate made of a zinc blende crystal with isotropic refractive indices in the optical and terahertz frequency ranges and with the refractive index of optical and terahertz radiation sufficient to provide the Cherenkov angle inside the plate between the directions of their propagation under direct irradiation of the plate input surface with terahertz radiation. The plate is made with the arrangement of its transverse plane of cut perpendicular to the crystallographic axis [110] of the crystal and has a crystallographic axis , which is parallel to the terahertz radiation polarization vector, and the crystallographic axis [001] or , which is parallel to the optical pulse polarization vector.
EFFECT: simplifying the design of the detector and extending the wavelength range of the optical pulse laser sources.
