FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical devices for converting energy of femtosecond laser pulses with a skewed front of intensity into energy of broadband terahertz radiation. Laser pulse converter with skewed front of intensity into terahertz radiation, containing a plane-parallel plate, made of an electrooptic crystal capable of converting femtosecond laser pulses having a skewed front of intensity, entering the plate through its input surface, into terahertz radiation, wherein the plane-parallel converting plate is made of a lithium niobate crystal, wherein the axis of the crystal is oriented in the plane of the plate orthogonal to the direction of propagation of the laser pulse, an antireflection coating is applied on the input face of the converting plate, a matching element is placed on the output face of the converting plate, made in the form of a triangular prism, from a material which is transparent in the terahertz frequency range, in order to output the generated terahertz radiation into free space.
EFFECT: improved output characteristics.
