FIELD: optical instrument making.

SUBSTANCE: opto-terahertz converter relates to optical instrumentation, which is intended for converting the energy of optical beams of femtosecond laser pulses into energy of working broadband terahertz radiation. Transducer comprises an electrooptical crystal capable of converting femtosecond laser pulses into terahertz radiation using a Cherenkov mechanism, and two optical triangular prisms which are transparent in the terahertz range and placed on opposite faces of the electrooptic crystal. Section of each pair of optical prisms is rectangular triangle, one of the legs of which contacting the face of electrooptical crystal is located at acute angle to hypothenuse of triangle, which is external face of optical prism. Optical prisms are made so that on the side of the input end face of the electrooptic crystal there is an acute angle of the triangle, and on the side of the output end face of the optical crystal – opposite to this acute angle of the other leg of the right triangle, which is the output face of the prism, and the acute angle is of such a value that provides complete internal reflection of transmitted to the prism terahertz waves from the outer edge of each optical prism in the direction of propagation of femtosecond laser pulses.

EFFECT: technical result is increased working output of terahertz radiation, generation of more uniform spectrum, increased aperture of terahertz beam.
