FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to the field of non-spherical magnetic or magnetized pigment particles and coating compositions containing these pigment particles to create layers with an optical effect (LOE). Non-spherical magnetic or magnetized pigment particles contain magnetic metal selected from the group consisting of cobalt, iron, gadolinium, and nickel; a magnetic alloy of iron, manganese, cobalt, nickel or a mixture of two or more thereof; magnetic oxide of chromium, manganese, cobalt, iron, nickel, or a mixture of two or more thereof; or a mixture of two or more of them have a value of d50 that is greater than 6 microns and less than 13 microns, preferably from about 7 microns to about 10 microns, in combination with a d90 value that is less than 20 microns, preferably less than or equal to about 15 microns.

EFFECT: creating the layers with an optical effect, based on the magnetic-oriented pigment particles with high optical properties.
