FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: valve for the liquid medicinal substance transfer unit comprises a housing including the first opening and the second opening and an elastomeric member located in the housing and comprising a continuous peripheral wall projecting from the elastomeric member surface and a slot extending through the elastomeric member surface. The continuous portion of the peripheral wall provides a continuous sealing contact with the housing and divides the housing into the upper and lower parts. The elastomeric member is designed, so that creating a pressure drop between the upper and lower housing parts results in the following: peripheral wall deflection from the housing to provide fluid flow around the elastomeric member, or opening of the slot providing fluid flow through the elastomeric member. The valve further comprises a support located in the housing and surrounded by the peripheral wall. This support is arranged to provide a fluid communication between the first and the second openings. A method for control of the flow direction through the liquid medicament transfer unit comprises pressure drop creation between the upper portion and the lowerportion of the housing in the valve-containing device, and also provision of the peripheral wall deflection from the housing and provision of fluid flow around the elastomeric member, or, alternatively, slot opening so as to aspirate the fluid through the elastomeric member. The fluid flow direction through the unit is controlled. The pressure drop between the upper and lower housing parts is provided by application of negative pressure to the upper part of the housing or by application of positive pressure to the lower part of the housing, so that the slot enables fluid flow through it. The pressure drop between the upper and lower housing parts is provided by application of positive pressure to the upper housing part, so that the peripheral wall provides fluid flow around the elastomeric member.
EFFECT: reduced or eliminated backflow of blood to the distal end of the vascular catheter, the design has a high intensity of directional injection and high internal mixing of the fluid, preventing formation of non-washable volumes of fluid that can lead to bacterial colonization and catheter-associated bloodstream infections.
