FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: method for operating a hybrid vehicle, comprising a stage at which, during the vehicle operation, when the intake air temperature detected before starting the engine but after the engine has been cooled down does not match the engine temperature, the vehicle speed threshold, at which automatic engine shutdown is allowed, is lowered from the first, higher speed to the second, lower speed. A second intake air temperature is also detected, after the selected operating conditions of the vehicle are satisfied. Then, the deterioration in the characteristics of the intake air temperature sensor is indicated based on the mismatch of the second intake air temperature with the engine temperature.

EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of the temperature sensor readings.
