FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: method for determining the location of short circuit on overhead line on arrays of instantaneous values of currents and voltages comprises measuring the arrays of instantaneous values of voltage signals and currents of three phases at the beginning and at the end of the line for the same time points tJ= T1, T2,…, TN, signals are transmitted from the end of the line to its beginning over a communication channel, pairs of digital samples are stored as actual, phase B signals are shifted by angle of 120° and phase C by angle of 240°. Then instantaneous values of voltages are filtered and currents with application of discrete fourier transform and complex components of phase voltages and currents are obtained and fixed at the beginning and the end of the line. The calculation of distance to the short circuit area l1 is carried out according to the expression

where i is the imaginary unit;γ0=α0+iβ0 -is propagation factor of electromagnetic wave; α0 - is damping factor of electromagnetic wave; β0 - is wave resistance of the line; ZB - line impedance; L is the length of the line.
EFFECT: increased determination accuracy of location of power line fault in the presence of instantaneous values of currents and voltages of high frequency and aperiodic components.
