FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: access to the area of carotid arteries bifurcation is performed, followed by isolation of the internal carotid artery and its excision. The Fogarty probe is inserted into the inner carotid artery above the edge of the atherosclerotic plaque, blocking the retrograde blood flow. Then, the artery is turned out on the probe with gradual detachment of the atherosclerotic plaque from its walls, while the plaque remains on the probe. The probe is withdrawn from the artery freeing a place for a clamp of the blood flow.
EFFECT: method allows to increase the convenience of surgical manipulations by fixing the internal carotid artery on the probe and is also low-traumatic because it does not require increased access when removing the distal part of the atherosclerotic plaque, to exclude the possibility of atherosclerotic plaque trauma upon clamp application, to prevent the microembolism of the cerebral arteries by bloated probe extraction, to maximally remove the atherosclerotic plaque.
